  • This is one of the funniest MP3s I've heard in a while, it's an "ebonics language lesson", courtesy of Da Ebonics Page, thanks to Shadowrye for the link!

  • Ricardo Bittencourt has released FudeBrowser, the first web browser for SG1000! FudeBrowser converts any HTML page into a SG1000 ROM, which you can then run in BrSMS (or any other SG1000 emu ?). Pretty cool if you ask me :) He has also released the source code to his "parrot engine"! Thakns to Kinox for the news.

  • More MAME news from MAME WORLD :) MAME Classic has been updated to 0.36.8, this is a cool Windows frontend for MAME. This release fixes a few bugs here and there, be sure to download this!

  • RockNES 0.981 was released yesterday .... and we missed it because we were busy with the live Retro Radio broadcast. That broadcast should hopefully be online by tomorrow :) Fx3 is also working on a tool that will "allow you to decode a NES VROM buffer into an ASCII file. In other words, you can see NES graphics using a good DOS text editor, like edit.com!" Thanks to JoseQ for the news.

  • ET2K is giving away a GUILLEMOT TNT2 ULTRA videocard, if you wanna have a shot at it, visit their site.

  • Hahahahaa :)

  • The new MAME beta roms are available from the link on the left. With compliments from Zyclone ;)

  • iGS, an Apple ][gs emulator for Macintosh, has been updated to v0.53r6. This is the first public release which has absolutely no known crashes at all :) The page hasn't been updated yet (it still says v0.53r5) but the download link is v0.53r6. Get it at the official Home Page. -R-

  • A Halloween trip to EmuChrist will reward you with a nice MAME treat - all beta 8 ROMs are available! -P-

  • Genesis Power says Trick (Genesis Release #10: Barney's Hide And Seek (U)) or Treat (Genesis Release #9: Cool Spot (U))! -P-

  • For those about to celebrate Halloween, IGN posted a little bit about the scariest N64 titles never made. Just keep repeating to yourself, "It's only a joke." -w

  • Stian Kristiansen over at Emulation64 is working on an Emulation Dictionary, to clarify the terminology we all use for newbies and others. Feel free to contact him if you'd like to contribute to the dictionary. -P-

  • Makuchan & Bardock have been mailbombed with "now! now! now!" type messages to release the Dragon Ball Z Hyper Dimension dump they've been working on together. Because of this, Madoka ROMance has released the dump, but NOT the password. The password will be revealed on November 5th, and I hope Makuchan sticks to that decision. I've also been asked to say this: STOP MAILING THEM ABOUT THIS GAME. Time to grow up, realize nobody owes you anything, and wait one lousy week. Nail me on the message boards all you want for saying this, but I'm sick of hearing really nice dumpers and authors are being harassed this way. And NO, I don't have the dump or the password either. (Thanks Bardock & others) Also, Opi reminded me that Makuchan also recently released Marvelous - 32MBits/FX Chip(SA-1), not yet playable, & Jumpin' Derby - 8MBits/FX Chip(SA-1), playable on SNES9x. -P-

It currently supports NES (using Cowering's database NESCHK) & Genesis ROMs, has full zip support and a GUI. Here's the author's homepage. He has big plans to support EVERY console out there, but this is only the beginning. NOTE: I haven't tried this utility myself, so proceed with caution. -P-

  • James Surine, MAME for Digita author, told me that Office Depot, a US chain store, is having a blowout sale on DC265 cameras! The price is $369 now, so if anyone wants a good digital camera (that also plays MAME!), it's a good buy! The reason for the sale is the pending release of the new DC290 model. -P-

  • Micorsoft has announced that Windows2000 will be released on February 17th of next year.

  • Zyclone was kind enough to try MAME for the Kodak DC265 camera (linked below) and he made an mpeg of it. He's loading Gauntlet 2, his HI-8 isn't too happy with the Kodak's LCD screen, but it works :)

  •    Tuesday, October 26th 1999 - Last updated @ 23:58 EST

  • Glenn over at www.videogamefans.com told me about a new incarnation of Ms.Pac-Man, on its way to the PlayStation and Nintendo 64! It's from Namco Hometek & believed to be called "Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness." Most oldtimers/emulation fans will probably still like the original better, but who knows... ;) -P-

  • Here's the MAME for Digita binary! Amazingly enough, this MAME runs on the Kodak DC265 camera, which (I'm told) contains a 66Mhz PowerPC processor. That makes it just fast enough to run some older games! :) The source code and other information can be found at the homepage. NOTE: I've renamed the file to mamedc01.zip (dc for Digita camera)to avoid confusion with other MAME files on our server. The contents is the same as the file called mamev0.1.zip on the author's page. This emu remains unconfirmed - DC265 owners, please try it and mail me. (Thanks James Surine) -P-

  • Linux is cool! I mean Linux is really cool! If one of your programs dies in Windoze you press CTRL-ALT-DEL and get some boring box with a list of processes and you click on the one you want to kill and pray. In linux, if a process is misbehaving, you can kill off the offending process by playing Doom! This, I know will NOT work for Windoze because in Winfroze you usually have to press CTRL-ALT-DEL to kill an offending process just so you can get the rest of your system back! -C-

  • I received several emails from people living near or in LA, and thankfully the earthquake caused minimal damage! Here's what Richard Ragon from HanaHo Games had to say: It was a 7.0 EarthQuake here in LA! Fortunately, it was out half way in-between Vegas and LA (Where we are at HanaHo Games). I personally find it amazing how places like Turkey can have a 5.0 quake and it levels half the country, and we can have a 7.0 quake and not have a single fatality and minimal damage! GreyBrain of E-Manual also wrote, reporting that The quake was (last time I checked) 7.1, only two points below the quake in turkey, and only two points below a catastrophic severity level. There was some damage, however, Cali holds several records as far as earthquake disasters go, so we're pretty prepared around here and it shows. Last I heard almost no major damages and NO DEATHS. It wasn't a rattler, felt more like you were standing on a boat in choppy waves. We lost power here for about an hour. Reports said that the area near the transformer was seen lighting up like a christmas tree(and in fact we saw the flash from the arc through the window). The biggest damage so far being reported is a train that derailed about 10 miles northwest of the epicenter incidentally my grandfather lives almost on top of the fault, luckily he's ok as well) reports of minor injuries from the train but nothing serious. Fortunately, the cars which jumped the tracks stayed upright. -P-

However, it is the first completely new and original game to be released under the Atari name for quite some time, so I have decided to post a preview on it. Arena Blast is not your typical first person shooter, so I invite you to stop by the site and check it out."

Thanks to KOSH for the news. *UPDATE* - it's a WINDOWS gameboy emu =)

  • Yahoo News has a blurb featuring an Intel scientist who admits that transistor scaling has reached a major wall. The next generation of silicon CPUs will be the last to feature large improvements unless a scientific breakthrough can offer a method to bypass silicon's corporeal limits. Sounds as if silicon based CPU's are obsolescent. -w

  • Just a note: I'm (Prophet) taking off now for the night. The apparent demise of our message boards is very depressing, and the past two weeks warrant an evening away from this place for me. Having checked the server, I can confirm that the board's html is indeed blank. It is now 4:30 AM where Atila lives. This is the first time I've actually seen the scripts go bonkers and delete a board with my own eyes, so before the accusations and inuendo begins - know the facts. *UPDATE* Now all the boards have vanished. It's late, I have no idea what happened to them and hopefully they'll be restored tomorrow. :( -P-

  • GeoShock seems to be dead, replaced with a brutal IRC log. Haze does NOT deserve the harassment he's getting from some useless lowlives, and this IRC log is a good example of what causes emu programmers, dumpers and siteops to close down and quit. Haze is/was one of the truly good people in emulation - he helped many people, contributed to programming projects (Emu+ etc.) and is a decent, friendly, respectful person. If this truly marks the end of GeoShock, and Haze leaves the scene - we at Retrogames will miss you. :( -P-

  • The Register is reporting that, "systems managers are facing what is thought to be the first virus to integrate with NT's security protocols.

Found in the wild, it is called WinNT.Infis and acts as a system driver. It resides in the memory and will infect files in systems running NT4 with the following services packs – 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Although not particularly destructive, WinNT.Infis will corrupt programs and invokes a series of NT application error messages."
