UNOFFICIAL MAME history.dat (maintained by Erik Schultz) ---------- "What's New:" Version 1 (2/4/01): Ginga Ninkyouden (new) (Erik Schultz) Legend of Success Joe (new) (Erik Schultz) Lupin III (new) (Erik Schultz) Macross (new) (Erik Schultz) Macross II (new) (Erik Schultz) Mahjong Sikaku (new) (Erik Schultz) Salamander (update) (Erik Schultz) Street Fighter II CE Rainbow (new) (Erik Schultz) Zookeeper (update) (Erik Schultz) ---------- Please note that this is NOT an official database as sanctioned by anybody. If you want that, you can download the history.dat off of mame.net. I have started this unofficial version because 1) The "official" history website has been broken for quite some time 2) There have been no reivisions to the official database in a while (perhaps because the .dat viewing capability has been broken for most of the .37 beta cycle) 3) Brian Deuel threw a public hissyfit over the whole Marble Madness 2 fiasco in retrogames.com message board and declared he wanted nothing further to do with the "emulation scene." I was going to wait for a new history.dat to appear by the end of the .37 cycle, but in light of item 3, I figured I might as well start now... My qualifiactions: None really. To be honest, I'm more of an anime historian than a gaming one (as my many of new entries no doubt indicate), and am in fact currently working on my graduation thesis on that very subject (for my Baccelors in Asian Studies at Temple University). However, I think I can probably let the rest of you guys do all the actual work by sending me the info, ne? ^_^ At this time I do not have any sort of web page set up for this database, and I don't really want to give out my email address lest I be deluged by a bunch of email I'm not ready to process at this time. ^_^ So there's really no way to send me revisions YET. Maybe retrogames.com will set up a nice board for me, or if that doesn't work, I may well be able to set up one of my own. I would like to ask that if you are going to send information that you please cite your sources, if have any (if its just personal knowledge, say so). I don't plan to add any information that is not cited somehow. This database is sorely lacking in citation at the moment... Also, much of the current information in history.dat is not history at all, but tips and tricks. Perhaps they would be better off in their own .dat file (tips.dat?) I assume one can just make any sort of .dat file if they use the proper formatting and just drop it in. I may do just that, though I certainly don't want to maintain BOTH listings...
